Scalloping IN Crystal River Florida

Scalloping in Crystal River is an amazing experience. With thousands of boaters on the water, it can be a mad house at boat ramps and restaurants, marinas and motels are running at capacity, but, it's great family outdoor fun, and some of the best eating you can find.

Bay scallop season opens July 1 in Citrus County.

Scalloping is not big game fishing. nor does it involve specialized skills, knowledge or tackle.  Scalloping is a fun day on the water for the entire family.  The little kids can stay near by the boat, the bigger ones can pick up scallops and see all the beautiful marine sea life, the adults can scallop, swim or just enjoy each other’s company while relaxing in the gin clear water of Crystal River Bay.  And don't forget dinner! Mmm!!!

INSHORE FISHING Crystal River

Inshore fishing in Crystal River is one the most popular activities on the water due to the abundance of inshore species. Crystal River is home to redfish, trout, snook, tarpon, sheepshead, snapper and many other species. Since the waters are more calm and clear inshore, the requirements for a vessel are less intense, and the boats used typically can run shallow water in the backcountry or handle a little chop on the open flats if need be. We like to tackle down inshore and use light rods, line and leader to catch the large variety of fish that you can find in the shallow waters of the nature coast.

 Monster Shark Fishing Charter

Many of our coastal sharks, such as Blacktips, Spinner sharks and Bulls are on our flats and nearshore waters spring, summer and fall but migrate farther south into South Florida waters for the winter. Some other species including Hammerheads and Tiger sharks can also be found in our area during certain times of year and may come very close to shore or inshore during the spring for spawning. Many other species can be caught year round, including the inshore bonnethead shark and reef sharks.

Sharks are commonly found along beaches, on the shallow grass flats, in estuaries, and on or near reefs and wrecks in our area.
The tackle we use for sharks is heavy duty spinning or conventional reels on medium to heavy rods with wire leader. Using light tackle on these large predators, and fighting a shark for hours on end can almost guarantee a dead shark after the release.

Near Shore Cobia And Grouper

Warm spring weather and bait showing up early this year has the Cobia fishing prime for this season. Cobia can be one of the most challenging fish in the gulf waters for anglers and Captain alike.  Sight casting is the primary method of fishing and it's not uncommon to encounter larger schools of fish around the near shore wrecks and grass flats. Pinfish, Spottails, Blue Crabs and WhiteBait are by far some of their favorite foods and can be targeted in a variety of ways on these trips.
Cobia like structure and most of the channel markers, wrecks, reefs, and oyster bars provide prime habitat for these foraging predatory scavengers.

Shallow water grouper fishing can be a blast. Catching Gag Grouper in as little as 3 ft of water while trolling or casting plugs over shallow ledges and rocks. Gag grouper are one of the toughest fighting fish pound for pound and will give even the most seasoned angler a run for his money.
